Texas Tech Basketball Press conference
With generous support from individual and corporate donations, the United Spirit Arena opened on November 19, 1999. United Supermarkets, LLC, was a major donor and earned naming rights for the 15, 000-seat multipurpose facility. It is referred to as the Entertainment Showcase of West Texas, hosting three sports for Texas Tech and bringing world-class entertainment to the South Plains region.
In 2014, United renewed their naming rights for the facility, at the same time changing the name to United Supermarkets Arena.
The USA has hosted a wide array of events including such headline acts as Elton John, George Strait, Cher, Aerosmith, the Eagles, Carrie Underwood, Pearl Jam, James Taylor, KISS, Shania Twain, Kelly Clarkson, and Rod Stewart.
